Administrative Board gives green light for Dormitory Construction in Landau
January 2020
At the Administrative Board meeting on 20 January 2020, the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz decided to start concrete planning for the new dormitory in Paul-von-Denis-Straße. Approximately 110 places could be created here in the medium term, which would raise the dormitory quota of the city of Landau above the 6 percent mark. However, the number of student accommodation places in Landau is still far below average in comparison to the rest of the state (10%). The number of student dorm places in Landau would thus increase from the current 381 to 491. Unfortunately, the project had to be put on hold for the time being due to the planning uncertainty caused by the pandemic. We very much hope to be able to resume a project of this kind at a later date.
Studierendenwerk supports Open Letter from AStA Landau
March 2020
The Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz is asking the state government for a financial aid commitment for students in Landau, Ludwigshafen, Worms and Germersheim and expresses its solidarity with the demands of the Landau AStA in its "Open Letter to the State Government" and the support it calls for students. The Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz warns that many students who have previously financed their livelihoods with part-time jobs are facing acute existential hardship due to the Corona pandemic and the loss of many income opportunities.

The universities at the respective locations support the petition.

Lockdown has Consequences for our Employees
June 2020
51 seasonal employees in the Studierendenwerk's university catering will not receive a new contract from mid-July 2020. Turnover in university catering has fallen by 96.5 per cent.
The figures are devastating. Where we produced and served 1745 meals per day in the same period in 2019, in 2020 it was just 62 meals on average. The Studierendenwerk can't get through that economically without making cuts. Despite all attempts to attract customers to the campus, we have to face the economic facts: without an open campus, there can be no open canteens and cafeterias. In a survey of all universities, more than 96% of the guests of the Studierendenwerk stated that they would no longer attend any face-to-face events by the end of the summer semester 2020. This corresponds 1:1 to the collapse in the Studierendenwerk's turnover. It is impossible to run the canteens and cafeterias under these economic circumstances.

Housing Department reports full Occupancy
September 2020
Large-scale housing campaigns helped the Studierendenwerk to achieve almost 100% occupancy of its 905 student dormitory places in Landau, Ludwigshafen, Worms and Germersheim.
With a great deal of commitment, creative crisis management and new ideas, almost all of the Studierendenwerk's dorm places were occupied. Both the temporary relaxation of the allocation guidelines and the extension of existing student tenancy agreements beyond the usual period had improved the situation in the meantime.

Rental Campaign for the new Maximilianstraße Residence starts
December 2020
The campaign for renting the new hall of residence at Maximilianstraße 34 will begin before Christmas. A total of just over 100 students reported interest for the 65 dormitory places and initially led us to expect a positive development in renting the property. However, the decision by the universities that the 2021 summer semester will most likely also remain digital caused the housing market for dormitory places to collapse completely again.
