Normally, the annual financial statement is the economic report card for the work of the Studierendenwerk in the financial year. This year, however, this report says less about our work and more about how we held together the financial resources of the Studierendenwerk during the pandemic in order to be able to be a strong service provider in the period afterwards.
The main drivers of an unexpectedly good annual result were, absurdly enough, the shortfalls in university catering that did not occur due to the closure of the refectories, the expiring employment contracts of seasonal staff and the promise of the federal government to extend the short-time allowance throughout the year.
